The Big Dipper was so high in the sky that it was difficult to compose it in a horizontal picture, but this vertical worked nicely. I really have to do more night sky shooting with the small Tokina lens, even without the aurora. As I mentioned on G+, I wasn't sure if I had gotten the focus right. It turns out that it wasn't perfect (at least now I know how to nail it next time), but considering the noise from ISO 800, the lack of exciting aurora and virtually no foreground, I got away with it. I should also add that I'm quite impressed with the noise reduction in LR4 beta.
