Finding my voice in the silence of nature

Pictures from the mountains

Since I had such a productive week last week, I dedicated a whole gallery to the pictures I took during my holiday in the mountains. Some of the them are already familiar from the blog, but most of them are new. It’s not possible to comment directly in the gallery, but this blog post is open for commenting…!

EDIT 2009-08-27: I’ve removed the Autumn 08 gallery referred to here, and moved the pictures to other galleries (Autumn, Mountains and Waterfalls).

Ok, the boat picture. Where was the sun? I see that you used a polarizer there. Was the sun behind your left shoulder @ 45°?

    And yes, very nice pictures!

Hmm… the picture is taken at 12:40 (lucky thing one can work with noon light in September), and I was pointing my camera roughly to North-West which must make the sun about 45° behind my left shoulder, correct. :) Just a lucky break, I honestly didn’t think about it at the time.

    Impressive, most impressive!

One thing I noticed though, ISO speed was not constant on all. To keep shutterspeeds fast enought, or?

    Thank you! :)

Yup it’s the shutterspeed. My default is always 100 (would be 50 if it existed in this camera), but I raise it when
    1) I’m handholding and can’t get fast enough shutter speeds by changing aperture
    2) I use a tripod, but can’t get fast enough shutter speeds by changing aperture, for example when I need to freeze wind blown objects

The first 4 pictures in the gallery are examples of 1) and picture #16 (the evening reflection) is an example of 2)

That explains then! And I think I will keep the wind conditions in mind from now on :)
